Data Centers: A Minor Issue That Moves Votes
- 'Invisible and influential. Unprompted, just 0.6% of voters name data centers as a 2026 issue — but asked directly, 32% say a candidate's stance is a major factor (35% among independents), and most favor pausing new approvals.
- 'There is no pro‑build bloc. A pro‑build candidate loses support in all 33 subgroups, including net −44.2 with Democrats and −42.2 with Independents. A pause candidate gains in all 33, including +40.4 with Independents — and even Republicans prefer the pause candidate 43% to 35%.
- 'Only 5.2% of voters back unrestricted development. Nearly half — 47.5% — want approvals paused or stopped, with majorities of Democrats (54.4%) and Independents (52.7%).
